In medicine, we know that prevention and early detection save lives.

It’s no different in leadership.

Workplace bullying isn’t a clash of personalities. It isn’t “bad behaviour” that will work itself.

It’s a cultural cancer, and if you wait until it’s visible, it’s already spreading.

🩺 Step 1: Spot the Symptoms Early

A good leader notices the subtle signs:

  • Disrespect disguised as “banter”
  • Deadlines quietly slipping
  • Microaggressions that snowball into insubordination

But too many leaders react like patients who fear the bad news: they ignore the symptoms.

 Then:

By the time they act, the damage has metastasised into:

🔹 Talent loss
🔹 Shattered authority
🔹 Reputational harm
🔹 Escalating psychosocial injury claims

⚠️ Step 2: Get the Diagnosis Right

 Here’s the brutal truth:

🛑 HR policies won’t fix it
🛑 Mediation won’t cure it
🛑 Silence won’t protect you

Delaying action doesn’t make it disappear. It lets the “cancer” spread beneath the surface.

While psychosocial injury claims are rising, only 25% of NDIS and WorkCover applications for psychological harm are approved.

That gap tells us this: most organisations are misdiagnosing the problem. They’re treating symptoms, not causes.

🚨 Step 3: Triage Before It’s Too Late

When someone presents with a serious illness, the first step isn’t paperwork. It’s triage.

 Leaders must do the same:

✅ Name what’s happening
✅ Stabilise the situation
✅ Act quickly before the damage deepens

Waiting narrows your options and increases the costs.

🛠️ Step 4: Treatment, Not Band-Aids

No doctor tells a cancer patient to “monitor the situation.”

They mobilise a team. They act decisively.

 In workplace culture, treatment means:

🔧 Holding individuals accountable
🔧 Dismantling toxic dynamics
🔧 Protecting leadership integrity

Posters, processes, and platitudes are brochures, not treatment plans.

🔥 Step 5: Recovery and Rebuilding

Just as cancer survivors don’t bounce back overnight, leaders recovering from upward bullying need a treatment journey:

  1. 🩺 Triage the issue
  2. 🛠️ Treat the cause
  3. 🧍 Rebuild confidence and authority
  4. 🔥 Redefine who they are on the other side

You don’t become an advocate while you’re still bleeding.

But once you’ve healed, you return sharper, stronger, and louder. 🎙️

🧭 Step 6: The Survivor’s Choice

Every survivor of illness or bullying faces a choice:

Do you stay stuck in pain?
Or do you step into purpose?

Leaders who’ve been bullied aren’t finished.

They’re rebuilding.
They’re redefining.
They’re ready for their comeback.

And they don’t need “support groups.” They need treatment plans that help them recover and regain their authority.

🤝 I Don’t Just Advise Leaders. I Stand With Them.

 I don’t do platitudes.

I don’t do “psychosocial safety for dummies.”

I work with leaders who’ve been blindsided, battered, and bullied, helping them fight back confidentially, strategically, and without apology. 🥊

Because confidence isn’t just a skill, it’s a leadership necessity.

And if you’ve lost yours, I’ll help you rebuild it, stronger than ever.

💬 Let’s talk. Confidentially. Before the symptoms become a diagnosis.

Upward bullying might be the silent crisis no one talks about.

But your comeback should be loud.
